Celebrating a new baby is a great reason to get the family and friends of the mom-to-be together. She deserves a great party, and the best way to make a shower successful is to get the guests comfortable with each other. The easiest way to make that happen is by playing baby shower games. Use the icebreaker games to get the introductions started, team your guests up with each other for friendly competition, or give them a chance to chat over crafting for the new baby. Each game lets you know what supplies you’ll need in order top play along with instructions for how to play the game.
Many of the baby shower games only require pens and paper but are favorites that get played over and over at showers. Even if you’re playing games that involve writing answers on paper, you can divide the guests into teams so they get to know each other better. How to Play:
Before the party, make a list with one interesting fact about each of the guests. Type and print the list without saying which facts goes with which guest. Place a copy of the list on each guest’s seat. Then, once everyone gets their list, give them 3 minutes to try to find out which guest matches each fact (they’ll be getting to know each other almost immediately). The guest with the most correct answers at the end of the 3 minutes wins.

Guess the Baby

How to Play:
This game involes a bit of pre-planning. When you send out the invitations to the shower include a note asking each guest to bring a baby picture of themselves. As the guests arrive, collect the photos and assign a number to each one using index cards placed under the photos. After all the guests have arrived, place the pictures around the room or on a table with the numbered card attached to each one. Hand out a numbered, blank lists to each guest and have them guess who is pictured in each photo. The prize winner of this baby shower game is the person with the most matches of numbered baby photo to actual person!

What Baby Item Am I?

How to Play:
Make an index card for each guest and write a baby item on each card (ex. bottles, bibs, diapers, crib). As the guests arrive, tape a card on their back. Have them ask each other other yes or no questions to try to figure out the baby item that is written on their card. When a guest has correctly guessed their baby item, they can remove the card. The first 3 people to guess their items win the game.

Don’t Say Baby
Supplies:
1 spring-type clothespin per guest
How to Play:
This icebreaker baby shower game starts as soon as your guests walk through the door. Give each guest one clothespin to wear on their shirt. Once all of the guests have arrived, instruct everyone that they can’t say ‘baby’ until it’s time for the mom-to-be to open gifts. If anyone hears someone else saying the taboo word, she can steal the rule breaker’s clothespin. At the end of the game, the person with the most clothespins wins a gift.

New Mom Baby Shower Games
Mommy Memory Game

How to Play:
Fill a large basket with small baby necessities (travel size lotion, soap, pacifier, etc.) before the shower. To start the game, ask the mom-to-be to walk around the room and quickly show each guest the basket. Once everyone has had a quick look at the contents, hide the basket in another room. Hand out pens and paper and ask everyone to write down all of the items they recall seeing in the basket. The person who can remember the most items is the winner. The mom-to-be gets to keep all the items as a bonus.

The Multi-tasking Mom Game

How to Play:
Each guest in this baby shower game will try to be the quickest multi-tasker. With the word go the Multi-tasking Mom whose turn it is has to pick up the phone and hold it between her ear and her shoulder without dropping it. At the same time, she must sort the socks into matched pairs and change the baby’s diaper. She must keep the phone to her ear while she is sorting and changing. If she makes a mistake, her turn is over. Each person gets timed from start to finish. Before the each person’s turn mix the socks up again. The guest with the best time wins.

Guess the Right Answer Games
Guess the Famous Mom

How to Play:
Before the guests arrive, print the name of a famous mother onto a name tag for each guest. When each guest arrives, attach a name tag to their back without letting them see the name of the famous mom. Ask everyone to walk around and ask “Yes” or “No” questions of the other guests to figure out whose name is on her back. As soon as someone correctly guesses their famous mom, they can move the tag to the front of their shirt. The first 3 people to guess who their famous mother is are the winners.

Baby’s Birthday Betting Pool

1 printed calendar page (two if the month may overlap) of the baby’s expected birth month
How to Play:
This baby shower game requires a little patience. Have the mom-to-be let everyone know her due date. Then ask each guest to choose a day and time they think the baby will be born, and to write their guess on the calendar (along with their name). The person who picks the correct day and the person who picks the closest time of birth (even if it isn’t on the same day) are the winners, to be sent their prizes after the baby is born (emailed gift cards are perfect prizes for this game).

What’s in the Bag?
Supplies:
10 brown paper bags
10 common baby items (like a bib, teething ring, rattle, bottle, cream, etc.)
A diaper bag
A pen and piece of lined paper for each guest
How to Play:
Before the party, Put at least ten common, useful baby items inside each paper bag. Place them all into the diaper bag. Give each guest a pen and a piece of paper then start passing the diaper bag around. Each guest should feel around the bags and guess what they think is in each bag. They get one minute to shake and feel the bags before passing the diaper bag on to the next guest. After their turn is over, have each guest write down what they think the items are. Once everyone has had a turn, have the mom-to-be open each bag to reveal what was in it. Whoever had the most correct answers is the winner. The mom-to-be then gets to keep the diaper bag filled with things her baby will need.

How Old Was Mom?

How to Play:
Before the shower, gather pictures of the mom-to-be from various ages during her life. Arrange the pictures in a place where the guest will be able to see them and place a number next to each picture. Then ask the guests to write the numbers in the order of age mom was at the time of the photo. The person who gets the most correct is the winner.

Baby Charades

Index cards with baby-related words or phrases written on them (one per card)
How to Play:
This baby shower game is played exactly like charades. Each guest chooses a card from the pre-made pile and acts out their word or phrase.

Perfect Timing
Supplies:
Kitchen timer
How to Play:
Have a timer ready so that when the mom-to-be is ready to start opening gifts, you can set the timer for 7-10 minutes. When the timer goes off, whoever’s present she’s opening wins a prize. Restart the timer and repeat until all the presents are opened.

Is it Mom or Dad?

Family photos from both parents-to-be sides
How to Play:
Before the shower get 8-10 photos of family members from each of the expecting parent’s sides. Place the photos on a table or a bulletin board and have all the shower guests guess whether the person in each photo is a relative of the mom-to-be or the dad-to-be. Member of the mom’s or dad’s family that will recognize other family in photos should sit this one out.

A master list of the most popular baby names for the years you’ve chosen (one per decade)

How to Play:
Each year the social security administration publishes a list of the most popular baby names. Choose 10 different years of the most popular names in 10 different decades, or 5 decades with 2 years per decade. You can also find online sites that have names all the way back to the late 1800s. The guest who has the highest total guesses for the most popular baby name for each year is the winner.

Baby Price is Right
Supplies:
7 to 10 baby items

How to Play:
Bring 7 to 10 baby items the new baby will need. Use blank note cards to write the price of each item on one side, then write the item name itself on the other. Play it just like on TV by having guests try to guess the value of each item without going over. The person with the highest total of all the items wins this baby shower game, and mom-to-be gets to keep the items.

Baby Names A to Z
Supplies:
Pens and paper for each guest, with the letters A-Z pre-printed on each sheet (one per line, two columns)
How to Play:
Have the shower guests write down baby names that begin with each letter of the alphabet and whoever finishes A to Z first wins. However, if no one is able to complete the list (some letters can be tough), the person who has the most filled in is the winner.

How to Play:

Baby Animal Names

Master list of adult animals
Answer key with the correct name of each animal’s baby (like calf, foal, gelding, etc.)

How to Play:
Before the shower make a list of a dozen or so animals and research the correct term for each one’s babies. When It is time to play, call out the name of an adult animal. After you’ve named the adult, have your guests write down the correct term for that animal’s baby. Keep going until you’ve completed your list of adult animals. When everyone is finished let the guests know the correct answers, the guest with the most correct answers is the winner of this baby shower game.

Funny Baby Shower Games
Because Mom Said So!
Supplies:
Pens and a slip of paper for each guest
Basket to collect the slips
How to Play:
First, ask guests to write down a short, fun parenting saying or advice that they grew up with on a slip of paper. Place all the slips in the basket and let everyone draw one (mix the slips up an make sure no one draws her own saying). Have guests try to figure out who wrote each saying, and whether they now say it to their own children (or will say it to future children).

Careful with the Egg Baby!
Supplies:
1 hardboiled egg for each guest
Paints, markers, stickers, etc.
Large wooden spoon for each guest (use this as favors for them to take home at the end of the shower)
How to Play:
Remember caring for that egg baby in high school? This is a shorter version without summer school hanging over you for failing! To start the game give each guest a hard boiled egg. Have the baby shower guests decorate their egg to look like a baby using paints, food coloring, or stickers. After the decorating is done, have a race in which each guest carries the egg “baby” on a wooden spoon. The spoon is held in each guest’s outstretched hand. They must race from point A to Point B without dropping their baby. This game can be done as a team challenge with two teams racing to get their team on the other side of the room as fast as possible. The team that gets to the other side with the most uncracked eggs wins.

Ice Babies
Supplies:
An ice cube tray
Small plastic babies, one for each guest (Party City and other party stores sell them)
How to Play:
At least 48 hours before the shower place the plastic babies in the ice cube tray, one baby per square. Pour water over them, and freeze. For the actual baby shower game: Once all the guests have arrived, remove the babies from the ice tray and put an ice baby in each person’s drink. Guests should keep an eye on their melting babies. When a baby is completely melted out of the ice, the guest needs to yell “My water broke!”. Whoever has their baby first wins the game.

Dough Babies
Supplies:
Play-doh in different colors

How to Play:
Let your guests be kids again with play-doh fun. Give each guest a cupcake wrapper and a few different colored pieces of dough. Set a timer for 15 minutes. The object of the game is to see who can create the cutest dough baby during that time. Have plastic knives, pencils, garlic presses or other items to help their creativity run wild. The mom-to-be chooses the winner.

Place The Baby On The Mommy

A poster sized photo or drawing of the mom-to-be
A drawing of a baby for each guest, cut out with tape attached for placing
How to Play:
This is the maternity version of Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Before the shower, make a poster-sized picture of the mom-to-be standing with her pregnant belly in profile (or draw a likeness of her). Hang it up in the center of a wall with a clear path to it. Blindfold each guest and give her a cutout picture of a baby. Spin each guest a couple times then have them walk to the wall and pin the baby on the mommy. Whoever gets it closest to the pregnant belly wins.

Hands On and Relay Shower Games
Blindfolded Diaper Change Relay Race
Supplies (1 for each team):
Pack of newborn diapers
Two receiving blankets

2 tables to serve as changing stations
How to Play:
Place enough diapers for each team member onto the tables that will serve as changing stations. Divide your baby shower guests into teams of the exact same number and have each team form a line a few feet away from the front of their changing table. Each team should begin with its baby doll wearing a diaper and wrapped in a receiving blanket.
Give a blindfold to the first person on each team. When you say go, the first person in line on each team places the blindfold on, goes to the changing table and changes the doll’s diaper by removing the blanket and diaper, putting another diaper on, and re-wrapping the doll in the blanket. They then walk back to their line and pass the baby to the next team member for changing, and the diaper changer goes to the back of the line. When everyone on a team has changed the doll’s diaper once, that team has won the baby shower game.

Paper Plate Baby Artists
Supplies:
Strong paper plates, without designs (like chinet-type white plates)
Pens or markers
How to Play:
Give each guest a paper plate and a pen or marker. They’ll be drawing a picture of the baby, and the best sketch will win but they have to draw the baby while the plate is on their head. The best, ir even most recognizable as a baby, drawing wins.

Guess the Baby Food
Supplies:
10 different flavors of baby food

How to Play:
Remove the labels from the baby food. Number the jars and the labels, put the numbered labels aside so you’ll know what is in each jar.
Ask each guest to grab a spoon and start sampling! The guest that is able to identify the contents of the most jars wins a prize.

Guess the Mom-to-Be’s Belly Measurement
Supplies:
Yarn
Scissors
How to Play:
Pass around a skein of yarn and a pair of scissors. Have each guest cut off a length of string that they think will fit around the mom-to-be’s belly (without measuring their own waist). When everyone has a piece of string, have each guest hand their piece of yarn to the mom-to-be (one at a time) and have her wrap it around her belly. Whoever has the piece of yarn that comes closest to being a perfect fit wins.

Bottle Babies
Supplies:
One 8 ounce baby bottle for each guest
enough juice to fill each bottle half way
How to Play:
Fill the baby bottles with the juice and give each guest a bottle. On the word go they must suck the juice from the bottles as quickly as possible. The first person to completely drink the contents of his or her bottle wins.

Toilet Paper Diaper Dash
Supplies:
Toilet paper, one roll for every team of two guests
How to Play:
Divide your guests into teams of two each. Next, give each team a roll of toilet paper. Allow each team 2 minutes to wrap one of the team member up in a mock diaper. The team with the most creative and realistic toilet paper diaper wins.

Bobbing for Pacifiers
Supplies:
Large plastic tub
one to two dozen pacifiers
How to Play:
Fill a large tub with water and place it in the kitchen for an indoor shower or outside if the weather is warm. Place the pacifiers in the water then give each of the guests one try at bobbing for as many pacifiers as they can get in 15 seconds with their hands behind their back. The person with the most pacifiers wins the baby shower game.

Pee in the Potty
Supplies:
Balloons (one for each guest)
Quarters (one for each guest)
2 small bowls
How to Play:
Divide the guests into two even teams. Place the bowls on one side of the room. On the other, have guests line up with their team. Give each guest with balloon and a quarter. Everyone should blow up the balloons and place them under their shirts. As each person reaches the front of the line, have them place the quarter tightly between their knees and race to the bowl at the other end while holding the coin tightly between their legs. Once the player reaches the bowl, they must ‘pee’ in the ‘potty’, dropping the coin neatly into the bowl. They then head to the back of their team’s line. The first team to make all of their potty runs wins the prize.

Decorate the T-shirt

Plain white undershirts or plain white short sleeved onesies for each guest, various sizes

Cardboard for each guest to stretch the shirt onto for decorating
How to Play:
Ask each guest to decorate an outfit for the new baby. Give each guest a t-shirt or onesie and cardboard to stretch the shirt onto. Have a large table set up with the fabric paint or markers. Next, ask each guest to decorate their t-shirt or onesie for the new baby. The new mom will get to take them home and have them as mementos each time she dresses the baby in one of the guest’s creations

Make a Baby Quilt

How to Play:
This is more of a memory-maker than it is a baby shower game. Each guest will get a square of fabric to decorate for the new baby. Guests can either decorate the squares at the party, or send guests their square in advance, and ask them to bring their personally decorated square to the shower. Have each guest give their square to the mom-to-be so she can see their handiwork. After the party, have someone assemble the quilt to be used as a wall hanging in baby’s nursery or a decorative quilt as a memento.

How to Play:
Give each guest a diaper and a marker pen, and have her write a personalized message on the back of the diaper. She can provide encouragment, advice, or wishes for the baby-to-be. One miniature plastic baby to be baked into one cupcake (party stores sell them in packages)

How to Play:
Before the shower, make enough cupcakes for all the guests, dropping a miniature plastic baby in one random cup. At the shower, bring out the undecorated cupcakes without letting anyone know that one is secretly carrying a baby. After everyone is finished decorating, the mom-to-be chooses her favorite and the winner gets the baby shower game prize. How to Play:
Before the baby shower decorate a small bucket or box. Ask each guest to write down something that they hope will happen for the baby in their lifetime.

Duck Pond
Supplies:
1 rubber duck for each guest

How to Play:
Fill a baby bathtub with water and put the ducks in it. Before placing the ducks in the water, mark the bottom of one duck make with a special marking. Ask each guest to pick a duck, and the one who picks the special duck wins a prize. Give the ducks to the mom-to-be for her baby’s bath times.

Scrambled word lists (one for each guest)

How to Play:
Choose between 20 common words associated with babies (like car seat, crib, stroller, breastfeeding, etc.). Make a list of the words with their letters all scrambled. Print out enough copies so each guest gets one. After giving each guest a copy of the scrambled word list, ask them to unscramble the letters and write down the real words as quickly as they can once you say “go”. Set a timer for 5 minutes, with the winner being the one who can unscramble the most words during that time.

Baby Name Maker

How to Play:
Before the shower, type the names of the expecting mother and father (first and middle names). Print out enough copies so that each guest gets one (one sheet per guest). At the shower, hand out the papers for the baby shower game and set a timer for 5 minutes. Ask the guests to see how many baby names they can make using only the letters in the parents-to-be’s names.

Alphabet Baby Blocks
Supplies:
Blank wooden blocks (you can get these from a craft store)
Non-toxic permanent markers or non-toxic paint pens
How to Play:
Give each guest a block and ask her to decorate it with different letters of the alphabet. Make sure each person chooses different letters until you have the complete alphabet from A to Z. These will become one of baby’s first toys and a memento for mom.

Diaper Related Games
What’s in the Diaper?
Supplies:
10-12 small baby items (pacifier, teether, bib, diaper cream, etc.)
1 package of disposable diapers

How to Play:
Before the shower, gather the small baby items. Take the disposable diapers and tape each one securely around each item so the item can’t be seen, and write a number on each diaper. Make a master list of the numbers and what’s in each numbered diaper. At the shower, line up the diapers on a table and have guests try to guess what’s inside each one by feeling it. The guest with the most correct guesses wins.

Diaper Surprise
Supplies:
4 or 5 different kinds of candy bars containing chocolate and nuts, caramel or other additions
1 package of newborn size diapers

How to Play:
Before the guests arrive, heat each candy bar in the microwave. Place one of each type of melted chocolate candy in a newborn-sized diaper, keeping track of which candy bar goes on which diaper. After your guests arrive, have them do a “sniff” test of each diaper and guess which kind of candy “poo” is on each one, writing down their guesses on a sheet of paper. The winning “nose” is the one with the most correct guesses.

How to Play:
When you send out the baby shower invitations include a note asking the guests to bring a package of diapers, letting them know that they will get a raffle ticket in exchange for the diapers. Have a great prize to give away to entice participation, and let them know what it is! How to Play:
Before the baby shower, enlist the mom-to-be’s help to prepare a list of questions about her. The questions can cover fun facts about her, her childhood, her life now and more. At the baby shower, read the questions out loud and have the guests call out the answers. Tally the answers on the notepad for each correct guess and who guessed it. The guest with the most correct answers wins.

Firstborn Children of Famous People

How to Play:
Choose at least 10 famous parents from American history, pop culture, or another interesting category. Research the name of the eldest child of each parent to create your answer key. Cartoon and TV Baby Trivia

How to Play:
Before the shower make a list of favorite cartoons and tv shows from when you were younger. Draw a line down the middle of a sheet of paper, and write the names of some tv or cartoon moms on one side, leaving the baby side blank (example – Moms from Rugrats, Alex Mac’s mom, Doug’s mom). Make enough copies so each of the guests gets one and hand them out at the shower. Ask guests to fill in the name of the tv or cartoon babies on the right-hand side. The most correct answers wins a prize.

“Baby” Songs

How to Play:
Divide the guests into teams of two or three people so you end up with even teams. Hand out paper and pens for them to write down their responses. Give everyone 3 minutes to list as many songs with the word “baby” or “babe” in the title. The team with the biggest list of songs when time runs out wins.
